1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Local storage is a similar place in your browser for small settings.
2. Essential cookies
These are needed for the site to work and to keep it secure. They cannot be switched off.
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| iodine_session | Keeps you logged in | Until you log out, up to about 1 week of inactivity |
| iod_csrf | Protects forms against cross-site request forgery | Browser session |
| iod_admin | Second login layer for site staff only | 30 minutes |
| iod_consent | Remembers your cookie choices | 12 months |
3. Local storage
We save your theme (dark or light), your recent emoji and unsent message drafts in your browser only. They never leave your device.
4. Optional cookies
We currently use no analytics or advertising cookies. If we add any in the future, they stay off until you allow them in Cookie settings, and no such script runs before you agree.
5. Location and cookies
Country statistics do not use cookies. Our server works out your country (never your city) when you log in, as explained in the Privacy Policy. You can turn this off with "Don't use my location" in your profile settings.
6. Your choices
Open Cookie settings in the footer at any time to change or withdraw your choices. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings; you will then be logged out.
